Charitable Giving at St Luke's

As a community we aim to give 10% of our church collection income to charity as part of our commitment to love our neighbours. This year (so far) we're supporting the following charities;

Sing For Your Lungs

Whittington Health Charity supports a number of Whittington Hospital projects that enhance patient care, which the NHS doesn’t have funding for. St Lukes donated a gift of £500 in support of their 'Sing for your Lungs' project, a weekly singing group for patients with long-term respiratory conditions which now includes people with post-Covid breathing issues.

The sessions are run by music therapists and include physical stretches and vocal exercises as well as a wide variety of enjoyable songs. We received a lovely thank you letter saying 'The generosity of our supporters has a major role to play in ensuring that we can help our community of more than 500,000 people live longer, healthier lives. Charitable support has a direct impact on the experiences of patients, their families and our staff.’

‘Sing for your Lungs is an essential part of my lung health routine. I am convinced that it has made an appreciable difference to my health. And I enjoy it so much!’ (patient feedback)

The Bike Project

We have donated £500 to this charity and they are very grateful, saying 'having fled persecution and atrocity in their country of origin, most refugees arrive in the UK with absolutely nothing. A bike helps them access food banks, legal advice, healthcare, education and much more. If they’re lucky enough to receive official refugee status, a bike can help refugees find employment. Thank you'.

We are looking to host a bike collection point at some point in 2024. Please could you let me know via Tina if you are interested in donating a bike - this website tells you what they are looking for. We have 4 already!  To donate a bike to a refugee, it needs to meet safety standards. Please only donate a bike if it can be ridden without extensive repairs and the replacement of major parts. If a bike has to be scrapped, this costs to the charity.
