In a service in January one of our readings was a poem written by Carine, a good friend of St Luke’s who often joins us on Sundays.
Her poem, Care Is A Joyful Way, is published in 'Care Stories' a collective storytelling project exploring care, belonging and solidarity with a group of refugees and people seeking asylum in London.
Care Is A Joyful Way
Care is not like an empty place
Care is not like a burning house
Care is not like someone taking your freedom
Care sounds like a joyful place
Care smells like spring, like clothes just coming from the washing machine
Care feels like connecting with others
Like sitting on a comfortable sofa and feeling the softness of it
Care is like a smiling face, welcoming you and saying hello
Care is a joyful way, to sit down under the shade
Remembering all the jokes that make us laugh with tears
While enjoying a cup of tea and biscuit with lovely friends.
