Fringe Dwellers: Stations of the Cross for our Easter Art
Each year at St Luke’s we invite artists to create a Station of the Cross for our Good Friday service.
In 2026 the theme is Fringe Dwellers, inspired by Jonny Baker and David Cotterill’s book of the same name, exploring Jesus’ attention to those on the edges - the overlooked, excluded and unseen.
Jesus taught that the divine society is one in which the poor and grief stricken are blessed and all are welcome at the table.
‘Jesus re-storied the world, flipped the script.’
Inspired by this example, who are the people living on the edges of our communities, our worlds? Held at the margins or kept out of sight? In the borderlands of belief and disbelief. Where are the fringe places in this world and who is dwelling there, ready to be surprised by God?
And as Jesus walks his final walk to the place of the cross and the edge of this life, who are the fringe dwellers he meets along the way?
We’re inviting responses in any medium (2D, 3D, sound, performance, etc.). If you have an idea - or would like to explore one - please get in touch and let us know what you’re thinking and what space you might need. To be part of Easter Art 2026 or for more information, email Meg.
